Opera Maine presents its first-ever production of Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. The cursed captain of a ghostly ship comes ashore every seven years in search of faithful love that will set him free. In Opera Maine's production of this famous legend, a violent storm brings the Dutchman to the coast of Maine. Here he finds Senta, a woman who has been obsessed with his plight and longs to save him. Wagner's powerful music evokes the sea and conveys the intense emotions at the core of this supernatural drama. Maestro Israel Gursky will conduct the Opera Maine Orchestra and Artistic Director Dona D. Vaughn will direct the star-studded cast.
To celebrate Maine's Bicentennial Opera Maine has collaborated with the Maine Maritime Museum for the setting of the opera on the Maine coast. The opera will be sung in German with English supertitles.

A message from Opera Maine: Opera Maine has made the very difficult decision to cancel our July 2020 production of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman. Although we had held out hope that we would all be able to come together this summer, we now realize that it would not be in the best interest of public safety for our artists and audiences to risk exposing each other to a resurgence of the Corona virus.
As a current ticket holder, here is what you need to know:
Opera Maine would like to pay a portion of the contracted fees to our artists and crew who rely on performances for their livelihood. As a ticketholder, Opera Maine hopes you will consider donating your ticket(s) as a tax deductible donation. Opera Maine is a non-profit arts organization and your gift is vital to allow us to offset these costs.
If converting a ticket purchase to a donation is not possible you have the option to retain your tickets. They will be valid for the new date. No further action is needed.
If your circumstances do not allow for either of these options, PortTIX will process a refund on your purchase.
Please take advantage of one of these options no later than June 30, 2020, after June 30 refunds will no longer be valid, however you may still donate your tickets back to Opera Maine if you find that you cannot attend the rescheduled date
Call PortTIX Box Office at 207-842-0800 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or if you need further assistance.
